Polina Tomashevsky
Attorney
Polina Tomashevsky has dedicated her entire professional life to the practice of immigration law. Born and raised in Moscow, Russia, Polina immigrated to the United States at age 15, seeking refuge from religious and ethnic persecution she had suffered in her native country. As an immigrant and a refugee herself, she has a unique understanding of the numerous challenges her clients face when they make a decision to uproot their entire lives in order to ensure a better future for themselves and their loved ones. But in addition to a sympathetic ear, Polina brings almost a quarter of a century of experience to every case she takes on.
Polina holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and Russian Literature from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Buffalo Law School. She received her first introduction to immigration law while still in law school, when she worked as a summer associate at a boutique law firm in New York City—and she never looked back. Over the years, she has had the honor of helping hundreds of clients from all over the world accomplish their personal and professional goals and make America their home and their place of safety and security.
Polina is affiliated with several professional organizations, including the American Immigration Lawyers’ Association (AILA), the National Immigration Project/National Lawyers’ Guild (NIPNLG), and Kids In Need of Defense (KIND), and regularly attends continuing education seminars that help her stay informed of all the current developments and trends in the constantly changing field of immigration law. Polina is a member of the New York State Bar. She is fluent in Russian.
In her free time, Polina enjoys curling up with a good book, going for long walks with her husband and their Akita Sammy, and cheering on the Washington Capitals with her son.
Alan Lopez
Paralegal and Client Liaison
Alan Lopez is an experienced immigration paralegal with a career spanning more than two decades. He began his work in the legal field in 1997, as an intern at Albright & Rhodes, LLC, and has since built a strong foundation supporting both criminal and immigration matters.
Alan brings a wealth of knowledge and personal experience to our practice. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park. Prior to discovering his true calling, Alan served in the United States Air Force, and worked in the medical field.
Originally from Guatemala, Alan immigrated to the United States at the age of nine, which gives him a personal insight and understanding of the challenges many of our clients face. He is an excellent communicator and an empathetic listener, and brings personalized, detail-oriented approach to every case he works on. His native fluency in English and Spanish enables him to quickly build a rapport and work effectively with a diverse client base, helping guide individuals and families through complex immigration processes with clarity, sensitivity, and compassion.
When not at the office, Alan spends his days off hanging out with his family, watching soccer and American football, or exploring the neighboring hiking and biking trails.
